Deputy Charge Nurse/Team Leader Critical Care

Join us and give the very best physical and psychological care to critically ill patients while learning and developing new clinical, research, education, quality improvement and leadership skills at University College Hospital Critical Care Unit in central London.

A recent peer review described us as “clearly a standard setting unit with … excellence” that “other units would benefit from”.  National audits show that we have some of the best outcomes in the country, and, within the Trust, the Unit gained Exemplar Ward status more quickly than any other department.

You will be able to access tailor-made personal and professional development programmes, from introductory to BSc and MSc level - including an Advanced Critical Care Nursing Practice pathway - as well as shorter courses to suit individual needs.

We have 44 beds in two units, taking patients from our busy emergency department, after major surgery, from the wards - facilitated by the 24/7 Critical Care Outreach Team. Next year, we will have an additional ten critical care beds in the new state-of-the-art cancer hospital adjacent to the main University College Hospital site.

Our staff have opportunities to get experience in all these areas. You will be part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, including the country’s leading critical care research and development team, the Unit psychologist, the authors of Europe’s best-selling critical care nursing textbook, experts in quality improvement and human factors; led by our Matron and supported by a dedicated education team.

Applicants are required to have significant experience post Critical Care Course in a Critical Care setting and able to demonstrate a strong desire progress onto this senior role, develop a team and strive for excellent patient care.
