Emergency Medicine/Simulation Fellow with International Opportunities
(ST4 – ST 6+ level)
Fixed-term six – 12 month post

Applications are invited for an appointment to a Simulation/Medical Education Fellow placement with International Opportunities to start from August 2017 onwards. This post offers an exciting opportunity for trainees to develop their experience and skills as Medical Educators. Fellowships will consist of a 12 month post, split 70:30 between the Emergency Department and the Simulation Centre.

You will be working with a proactive and friendly multidisciplinary team Working closely with clinical and managerial colleagues to achieve and maintain a high quality clinical service.

By the end of the post, the successful candidate will have completed the following learning objectives: 1. Have run, developed and directed a simulation course
2. Presented at a national or international simulation conference
3. Completed various simulation-based research outputs
4. Developed skills and experience and postgraduate qualification in medical education

The post-holder will have simulation supervision from the ED Simulation Lead Dr. Anna Buckley.

The Emergency Department (ED) saw 130,000 patients in 2016/7. There are 15 Consultants with a shop floor presence 16 hours/day Mon to Friday and 15 hours at weekends. The post-holder join the Senior Registrar rota consisting of 10 doctors. The Department also has 15 Junior Clinical Fellows, 3 ACCS trainees, 9 FY2s, and medical students for UCL. There is co-located Urgent Care Centre integrated into the department, where GP colleagues work alongside ED staff. The nursing establishment comprises around 80 WTE, plus an ED Senior Nurse and two Advanced Nurse Practitioners.

The Learning Hospital incorporating the UCLH Simulation Centre comprises of a range of innovative clinical training suites offering broad scope for all health care professionals to learn and practice a variety of clinical skills. The centre is equipped with a wide range of facilities from clinical skills areas and medium/ high fidelity simulation suites, to leading-edge minimal access surgery equipment. There is a busy calendar of post-graduate and under-graduate courses being run by a diverse multi-disciplinary faculty.

The Emergency Department at UCLH is setting up links with a department in Gaborone, Botswana and Moshi, Tanzania. There is potential for the post-holder to spend some clinical and teaching/ simulation time in this department if they wish to do so.
