Band 6 Biomedical Scientist Advert

UCLH is one of the largest Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant centres in Europe. We perform over 350 transplants per year and provide vital services for UK bone marrow transplant registries.

An opportunity has arisen for a responsible and self-motivated HCPC registered scientist to join the laboratory team within the Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Programme. The team has 5 scientists who are all involved in the processing, storage and distribution of cellular therapy products for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation.  A rigorous quality management system is in place to ensure that the facility operates within national and international legislation, and provides the best possible care to patients and donors.

As part of this small dedicated team, the post holder will be required to work in a clean-room environment to process bone marrow, stem cells and other cellular therapy products for patient transplant.   The post holder will be required to maintain at all times the high standards and quality of this highly regulated service and keep an up to date knowledge of Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation Biology, and current working practices in those areas.

The post holder will be required to work on some evenings (to 20:00) to enable afternoon stem cell harvesting in the Collection Facility.  Compensatory time in lieu will be given that week to ensure working hours are kept at 37.5 hours per week. Evening working will be rostered in advance.
