The National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme has been rolled out across the UK. UCLH has been a designated Bowel Cancer Screening Centre for the North Central London Sector since 2007, covering Camden, Islington, Haringey, Enfield and Barnet.

We are looking to appoint a Specialist Screening Practitioner (SSP) for the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme to work alongside a team of other experienced SSP’s providing care for participants of the programme.  This post is to cover maternity leave and is for 12 months.

This is an opportunity for someone with a particular interest in bowel cancer who would like to expand their nursing role. The role will involve co-ordinating care, providing autonomous care and addressing the needs of individuals arising as a consequence of the screening programme. It will also entail detailed and accurate data entry into local and national databases. The post holder will require excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to their work.

You will need to have extensive post registration experience with significant knowledge/experience of Endoscopy or GI nursing. You will be required to undertake the SSP course, which involves two weeks study in Liverpool and development of a portfolio of work, within the first year of being appointed.

UCLH had been successful their bid to host Bowel-Scope Screening which will run alongside the existing Screening Programme. Roll out for Bowel-Scope Screening has commenced at our satellite site at the Whittington Hospital. Planned roll out will include Chase Farm Hospital and UCLH. All members of the SSP team will be required to travel to the satellite sites on a regular basis.

We offer our staff an interest free ticket loan, a subsidised gym, a library for staff to use, free independent and confidential support for all staff and large retail discounts. Part-time working will be considered.

We value and promote diversity and equality in the workplace. Unfortunately it is not possible to acknowledge applications or send letters to candidates who have not been shortlisted. Therefore, if you do not hear from us within 2 weeks of the closing date, please assume that your application has been unsuccessful.

“Please note this role’s fixed term contract is for the purpose of covering maternity leave and therefore the end date is subject to change in line with this.”
