Radiotherapy Department

Macmillan Support Worker Band 4

FULL TIME 1.0 WTE 16 Month fixed term

UCLH is situated in the Heart of London’s west end with easy access by all forms of public transport.

The Radiotherapy department opened in 2005 and has 5 Varian Linear accelerators a GE CT-Sim. Planning also takes place in the MRI and PET suites. The department boasts a comprehensive brachytherapy suite and a Gulmay skin unit.

The UCL Hospitals' Radiotherapy Service performs about 2000 new courses of treatment per year, a number that is expected to increase over the next few years.

The workload is very varied including paediatrics, TBIs together with a variety of head and neck regimes. We are a supra-regional bone tumour centre treating many adolescents.

This is a pilot of a national initiative funded by Macmillan. You will be working alongside the radiotherapy team to streamline patient access to care. The post-holders will support the radiotherapy team in care co-ordination by providing a single point of access; they will be able to co-ordinate care pathways and provide education and support for patients undergoing Radiotherapy.

We are looking for people with excellent communication skills who would enjoy the challenges of working within the cancer environment. Previous experience in health and social care work is essential; I.T. skills and previous admin and clerical experience are also expected.

The successful applicants will be self-motivated and willing to develop their skills and knowledge further. We will offer you a bespoke training package with clinical supervision and peer support.
