Ward Volunteers help provide a positive hospital experience to patients. This volunteer role is about engaging with patients to help reduce boredom, improve well-being and generally supporting their hospital stay.

Volunteers are a key part of the ward team, helping respond to requests, proactively engaging and interacting with patients, sitting with patients whom may be anxious or need a listening ear, facilitating activities, running errands or fulfilling basic shopping requests.

In addition this role includes supporting volunteering around mealtimes, helping them eat their meals, giving them time to chat and a listening ear. Volunteers provide encouragement and basic support e.g. opening packets of food or helping cut up food into smaller pieces. After additional training volunteers may also provide more hands on assisted feeding, physically helping patients to eat.

As a Ward Volunteer you will be based on, and integrated with the team on one specific ward. This helps to ensure consistency for patients, staff and volunteers. We ask all volunteers to be flexible with which ward they are based on.
