At UCLH (University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) our success starts with you.

We want you to come to UCLH, and stay at UCLH; all of our staff have been involved in developing our values.

We believe that UCLH is a better place for patients and staff alike. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest and most successful Foundation Trusts in the UK with an international reputation and a tradition of innovation.

UCLH has two major strategic projects underway. On Grafton Way, we are building a facility which will be home to one of only two high energy NHS proton beam therapy centres, Europe’s largest centre for the treatment of blood disorders and a hyper modern surgery service.  Close by on Huntley Street we are developing the new Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals. Replacing the current hospitals on Grays’ Inn Road, this development will mean we can provide multidisciplinary care to our dental and ENT patients in a modern environment. Our Grafton Way facility is due to open in 2020, with Huntley Street opening in 2019.

NHS staff survey results from 2016, UCLH has been named one of the ten best performing non-specialist trusts against the following statement: “If a friend of relative needed treatment I would be happy with the standard of care provided by this organisation”.

Ward Volunteers help provide a positive hospital experience to patients. This volunteer role is about engaging with patients to help reduce boredom, improve well-being and generally supporting their hospital stay.

Volunteers are a key part of the ward team, helping respond to requests, proactively engaging and interacting with patients, sitting with patients whom may be anxious or need a listening ear, facilitating activities, running errands or fulfilling basic shopping requests.

In addition this role includes supporting volunteering around mealtimes, helping them eat their meals, giving them time to chat and a listening ear. Volunteers provide encouragement and basic support e.g. opening packets of food or helping cut up food into smaller pieces. After additional training volunteers may also provide more hands on assisted feeding, physically helping patients to eat.

As a Ward Volunteer you will be based on, and integrated with the team on one specific ward at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN). This helps to ensure consistency for patients, staff and volunteers. We ask all volunteers to be flexible with which ward they are based on.
